My pharmacist told me that I should NOT take magnesium and vitamin D together ever or they cancel each other out. However, your site is telling me differently - can you clear this up for me?

I don't have health insurance right now and my health is really deteriorating now. When I had insurance and went to Kaiser Permanente in the SF Bay Area, they did a vitamin D test on me and it was at a level 7. They put me on megadoses of the vitamin D and also calcium. That raised it a bit but then I lost my insurance so I am unfortunately left on my own.
I have a strong feeling something else is wrong with me which is causing the absorption of vitamin D and the vitamin D loss is a symptom of it. It is probably something rare since Kaiser couldn't figure it out. I have other unusual health problems also.
Well, I wanted to mention those things but what I really wanted to know was is it necessary for me to take magnesium with the vitamin D since my magnesium levels were in normal range. My calcium levels are were also in normal range.

I have been diagnosed with Vitamin D deficiency. Reading about it I stumbled about information about Magnesium dificiency which matches my symptoms perfectly! So I'm curious to know:
Can Vitamin D deficiency be caused by Magnesium deficiency?
And can too much Vitamin D supplement deplete Magnesium levels?
Many thanks,
Katarina

Hi, Just thought I'd ask what your opinion is of Bio Tech PlusD3 that has magnesium 100 mgs in it already? I'm taking Natural Calm now but sometimes forget to take it when taking the D3 spray and I get some anxiety symptoms. This is from the Vitamin D council website. Thanks so much.

Kerri, This is a great website! Thanks for all your hard work on it. I found you after hearing a local physician at a pain treatment clinic talking on tv about how they are using Vitamin D for pain reduction.
I have read most of your site and learned so much. I wish I'd waited a day and purchased your online product, but plan to get some soon.
Anyway, I have myesthenia gravis (14 yrs.), and because I often have to sit up and sleep in order to breath, I have developed coccydynia. There is little hope for treating the condition, except to drug the pain, which I hate. I take huge amounts of ibuprophen and some lortab. I'm never really free of the pain.
Will I still be able to absorb Vitamin D without the magnesium? I get some magnesium with my calcium supplement and my multi, but want to see what you think.
Thanks again for your superb site, which I am sharing with my doctor.
Sue

My physician recently wrote a script for me for Vitamin D containing 50,000 units. The paper I got from the pharmacist where I filled the script said to NOT take magnesium with this supplement. This seems counter to everything I read about taking vitamin D with magnesium. Any explanation for this warning from my pharmacy?
Thanks, Wendy
