Vitamin D Deficiency for Over a Year
by: Nikita

My Vitamin D Level was 58 nmol/L (about 18 ng/ml for those in the US) when I first had it taken. I took 50,000 IU each in about 6 Vitamin D Injections. Since then I have been taking 600 IU tablets OTC Vitamin D with calcium which we get in US.

I also continue taking b complex with b12.. I still have all this pain...joints and soft tissue pain every now and then my weight has not been reducing how much ever I try. It's almost been a year now that I have not got myself tested -will do a annual one soon.

My doctor thought I had Symptoms of Fibromyalgia and put me on SAVELLA and LYRICA which had more Side Effects then good effects.
I started having high platelets with muscle twitches and burning sensation.

I just got myself out of all those medication and decided to give these a fight the alternative way
Yoga and meditation which helped me tremendously
My muscle twitches are 80% gone now... its just soft tissue pain around my knees and
here and there aches all the time.

Especially I think its something like sciatica and meralgia parathesia due to lower body heaviness and obesity.

I am 5'5 and weigh almost 200 pounds
should be 140 pounds. My menstrual irregularities started with the Vitamin D Deficiency itself...
Also reason for this deficiency was crash dieting.

Thanks for all the great help and I look forward to your answer...

Excellent blog!!!!

Why you have vitamin d deficiency and vitamin b12 deficiency...
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

Hi Nikita,

Thanks for the extra information. OK. So, you think that your problems are due to crash dieting. While that may be PARTIALLY true, it's likely that the crash dieting led to a condition called Increased Intestinal Permeability that led to the vitamin d deficiency and the Vitamin B12 Malabsorption.

That's great that you started meditation and yoga, as that helps to decrease the stress and begin healing the leaky gut and also helps to decrease the need for magnesium. And it's very likely that your muscle twitches were Signs of Magnesium Deficiency from taking the vitamin d. Please read my page on Magnesium and Vitamin D to understand this better.

So, the other issue is that you took WAY too small of a dose of vitamin d to make a difference. You only took 300,000 IU's and then decreased to 600 IU's per day. If you read my page on Vitamin D Deficiency Treatment, you'll see that you need to take 50,000 Iu's a week until your level comes up to at least 158 nm/L (50 ng/ml). And after that to take between 3800 to 5000 IU's per day.

So, I guarantee that you will still be very very low when you take your level.

So, read about leaky gut and get your level and let me know if you have any questions.
