Rheumatoid Arthritis and Vitamin D

First of all thank you for your website.

My aunt, 50, suffers from a terrible autoimmune disease called rheumatoid arthritis at an early stage. I suspect (almost 100% sure) that she is severely vitamin D deficient. Do you think a supplementation of D3 will help her alleviate some symptoms?

I would recommend her to take 30000 IUs of D3 for 2 weeks every day and then at least 5000/day for the rest of her life plus 4 gr of super fish oils and glucosamine every day.
Are there any studies indicating a connection between rheumatoid arthritis and vitamin D deficiency?

vitamin d and rheumatoid arthritis

I've been diagnosed with undifferiented RA and I'm currently on treatment with methotrexate. Before my blood test, I was taking 1000 IU of Vitamin D3. After a routine blood test my doctor said my level was 70 nm/L so I increased it to 2000 IU's per day. Now I got a call after my next test that it is 69 nm/L and to up it to 3000 IU's per day.

The receptionist told me Normal Vitamin D Levels are between 70 and 200 nm/L. I hope I'm having the right test. Does this sound right. Do you think I should be taking more.

Thanks Marian

Vitamin D and Rheumatoid Arthritis

My husband has RA and I see that lack of Vitamin D is related to autoimmune problems. There are no instances in any of his family of RA, only him. Could his RA have been brought on by Vitamin D deficiency?

Also they have suppressed his immune system to slow the progression of his RA with Methotrexate. So, I was wondering if he should be on D3 and is it safe for him.
