My Vitamin D Serum Level is 16

by Liz
(Avon, Connecticut)

I had a Vitamin D blood test that showed my Vitamin D Serum Level is 16 ng/ml and my doctor told me to take 2000 IU's of Vitamin D per day.

I also have a cholesterol level of 270 and take Fish Oil Capsules 900 mg per day.

Is this dangerous?

Should I continue to take my Multivitamin and Mineral Supplement or would this be too much Vitamin D every day?

Thank you so much,

Liz

2000 IU's Vitamin D
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Health Queen

Hi Liz,

Unfortunately, I have to tell you that your doctor

More About Vitamin D

is not well versed in how to treat Vitamin D Deficiency. The 2000 IU's of Vitamin D that he asked you to take PLUS whatever is in your multivitamin (usually about 800 IU's per day) are STILL not likely to resolve your Vitamin D Deficiency!

Most doctors who are aware of how to Treat Vitamin D Deficiency are using 50,000 IU's per Week, about 7000 IU's per day, for 6 to 12 weeks in order to treat Vitamin D Deficiency.

It's also likely that your doctor is looking at the lab values on the laboratory paper to determine a Normal Vitamin D Level. Unfortunately, the value of 30 to 100 ng/ml on the sheet does not reflect current research and is too low.

When you get your repeat Vitamin D Blood Test in about 3 months, you need to make sure that you get your level up to about 40 to 60 ng/ml- quite a bit higher than the 30 ng/ml on the lab sheet.

So Liz, you need to be talking to your doctor about a proper dosage of Vitamin D for Vitamin D Deficiency Treatment- or find a practitioner who IS knowledgeable about Vitamin D so that you get your levels to the right amount and get all of the benefits of an optimal vitamin D Level.

Cholesterol Levels

As far as your Cholesterol Levels are concerned,

More About Vitamin D

that is great that you are taking Fish Oils to help lower your cholesterol. We westerners are EXTREMELY deficient in Omega 3 Fatty Acids and taking an Omega 3 Fatty Acid Supplement is an important step in improving your health.

However, in my mind, a high cholesterol level is not a PROBLEM, but a Symptom of a bigger problem! While I believe that the medical community has put too much of an emphasis on cholesterol levels as a heart disease risk. Often an abnormal cholesterol level generally means that you are just generally not taking good care of yourself from a lifestyle perspective!

While most people sincerely believe that they take good care of themselves, I invite you to take a brutally honest look at your nutrition and exercise regimen to see if you really are doing all that you can in your life to improve your health.

If you are not sure what, exactly, you SHOULD be doing to improve your health and bring down your cholesterol levels naturally, I invite you to read The Body Ecology Diet and learn what it takes to get healthy, stay healthy and avoid the PREVENTABLE chronic health problems that are epidemic to the world right now.

You REALLY don't have to suffer with health problems, and you CAN bring down your cholesterol levels naturally!
