Magnesium Vitamin C Interaction?

by Arnie
(Lynnwood, WA, USA)

I am taking 13,000 to 26,000 mg of vitamin c each day. Is this a contraindication of taking Magnesium glycinate? Can these two be taken at the same time?

Hi Arnie,

Before I answer, I'm curious about a few things. Do you have some sort of health condition that allows you to take such a high dose of vitamin c without GI problems? (People with infections, viruses, etc can often take much higher dosages of vitamin C without problems than people without these issues could ever do.)

And I'm thinking that you are not taking a multivitamin along with that? I say that because if you were, you would have seen that your multivitamin has both vitamin c and magnesium in it and so wouldn't have wondered if there was a contraindication to taking the two together if all multivitamins have them in the same formula.

If you are not taking a multivitamin, why not?

First off, thanks much for your website. I have learned tons, at this point primarily that I should be taking magnesium with my Vit D.

Secondly, I am using the comment button cuz I could not figure out how to respond otherwise.

Yes, I am taking a plant-based multi-vitamin. I just had not noticed that the contents actually answered my question!!

Do I have a health condition? Osteoporosis, Eyesight now at bifocal strength, Low Vit D levels, food allergies (wheat, dairy, eggs, peanuts), longstanding insomnia, vein blockages as determined via cardioretinometry, problems with concentration and information retention, and feelings of being overwhelmed by trying to make the changes necessary to maintain/improve my health. I did have mono and EBV, but last lab showed it is still inactive after knocking them out with hydrotherapy.

Actually the Vit C is part of a list of supplements that is part of what I feel overwhelmed by.

The Vit C is just the start of implementing the regime detailed in Practicing Medicine Without A License? The Story of the Linus Pauling Therapy for Heart Disease (Pauling Therapy Handbook) by Fonorow.

Hi Arnie,

Interesting sounding book. I hadn't heard about it. But it sounds like it might be similar to Dr. Gary Gordon's F.I.G.H.T Protocol in which the supplements that I offer are all based on.

You may be interested in the Bio Ener-C Vitamin C supplement that Dr. Gordon developed to have fewer GI side effects so that it can be taken at very high dosages.

It sounds like you have a protocol already going for yourself that is on the right track. That's great.

Not sure what to do about the supplement overwhelm, but sometimes it DOES take a lot of supplements in order to get rid of these infections and to get well again.

Keep it up and let me know if I can be of any help...
