Maybe that's all she needs
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

Hi Sundeep,

Your doctor gave her a very large dose and that may be all she needs to do for now. Make sure that she gets her levels tested in about 2 months to see if they have come up and then go from there.

For the future, I have the information all outlined about how to get levels up and keep them there on the vitamin D Therapy page.

Don't worry that she got 600,000 IU's all at once when it suggests 50,000 IU's per week. That is a perfectly acceptable way to treat low vitamin d levels.

You'll have to see an endocrinologist...
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

Hi Sundeep,
I'm sorry to hear about your wife, but there is no way to diagnose her with parathyroid problems just by looking at her lab results. You can go to the website Parathyroid.com and go to the diagnosis on the left-hand side. About halfway down that page there is a chart that you can compare her lab results with lab results that reflect who does and does not have parathyroid disease. In any case, if you suspect she has parathyroid disease then you should make sure that she sees an endocrinologist in order to be certain.

As far as her calcium level is concerned, the vitamin D injection would not affect her calcium one way or another. Vitamin D will only make calcium levels go up when someone is toxic. But your wife is clearly not toxic so the vitamin D would not have affected her calcium levels.

Her low blood pressure could be any number of things and I certainly don't have enough information about her health to help you determine why she might have low blood pressure. Although a common cause of low blood pressure is adrenal gland fatigue. Please go to my page at Adrenal Gland Fatigue and you can read more about adrenal gland fatigue there. Unfortunately, your doctor is not likely to know much about adrenal gland fatigue and it's unlikely that he'll be able to help diagnose her. But there are many books and resources that you can get more information about how to help adrenal fatigue.

As I said though, without knowing more about her there is no way to know why she might be having low blood pressure and you should make sure that she's examined closely by a doctor to rule out all possibilities. But having lots of pain and keep issues isn't unusual in someone with such severe vitamin D deficiency. It's only been a short time since her injection and one injection may not raise her levels enough to make her feel much better. So you should make sure that she gets another level in about two months or less and reevaluate to see if she needs another injection.
