Irritable Bowel Disease and Vitamin D
by: Kerri Knox, RN-The Immune Health Queen!

Hi Loren,

I'm so sorry that you have been suffering for so long without any answers. Unfortunately, this finding of vitamin D is not likely to be the answer that you need either. Don't get me wrong, it will be likely to be of help. You may feel a bit more energy and the Vitamin D can help with your immune system and help to decrease the inflammation.

But the Vitamin D deficiency, while contributing to the problem, is not likely to be the CAUSE of the problem. And there is no ONE THING that is going to fix you. But there really is hope!! The FIRST thing that can help your IBS is to change your diet. There is much Research on IBS and Celiac disease. A gluten free diet could very much improve your symptoms. Lactose intolerance is almost invariably the result of damage to the intestines, so cutting out any dairy could also be a big help.

But when you have had intestinal damage for 15 years, you are likely to have MULTIPLE nutritional deficiencies as well, and you will likely need fairly intense nutrient replacement as well - particularly vitamin b 12, other b vitamins and magnesium. I don't know why doctors don't realize this, but there is plenty of evidence of this and even medical testing that you can do to test for these problems- it's really not some huge mystery. There are reasons for your illness that can be found, and things that can be done to improve your health.

So, if you are really serious about getting off the illness Merry Go Round, I HIGHLY recommend some SERIOUS changes in your diet. If you just want to start out with some dietary changes that will likely be of some help, then download The Healthy Urban Kitchen and get started.

You now have a chance to get off the Illness Merry go Round, and get out of the paradigm of doctors not giving you the answers that you need. The answer really is in lifestyle. Are you ready to overcome your IBS and finally be well?
