Hi Linda,

Why are you still with this doctor. Seriously, he left you with a vitamin d level of 8 for a year and didn't put you on a maintenance dose after treating you with an inadequate dosage for only one month? That is NOT the 'standard of care' that is acceptable to be treating vitamin D deficiency and is just simple negligence.

Please read my page on Vitamin D Therapy in order to get your levels up to optimal and to KEEP it there! Make sure that you read the page on Prescription Vitamin D to see why that is NOT the right kind of vitamin d to be taking! Get off of that ASAP.

Now, remember, you've not been vitamin d deficient for just two years. That's only how long you've known you've been vitamin d deficient. But the truth is that you've probably been deficient for years and more likely decades. Unless you lived in a sunny place and were tan and bronzed at one time in your life, you may have been vitamin d deficient your entire life.

This puts you at serious risk of TONS Of problems: heart disease, osteoporosis, chronic pain, Multiple Sclerosis, many different types of cancer, etc.

Please see the Vitamin D Disease Incidence Chart to see what diseases you are at risk for having a vitamin d level so low for so long. This was a serious oversight by your doctor and you need to get on vitamin d and STAY on it for the rest of your life. Vitamin d is NOT a 'medication' as you said, it's a NUTRIENT that you need to have forever.
