I have read all the other post's on the issue and I see I have left out some imporant information in my first question. My 1,25 hydroxy D level was 189 (range 10 - 75) that is 2 1/2 times the the upper level of the range. I have recurrent prostate cancer and have had surgery to remove the prostate in 2004, and salvage radiation therapy in 2007. I have been taking Vit D3 for over 2yrs. now. I started taking 4000 mg a day and am now taking 10,000 a day. That amount has raised my 25(OH)D TO 83.2 which seems to be slowing the rise of PSA. My Doctor told me to stop taking the Vitamin D3 because of the high level of 1,25 hydroxy D. I don't want to because it is keeping the cancer in check. Please advise
Thanh you soo much for all you do.

More of a medical question than nutritional...

Hi Michael,

High 1,25 OH D levels have very little to do with taking vitamin d. I don't know why your 1,25 OH D is so high, but it's really more of a medical question why it's so high and not likely a vitamin d issue.

But I can't really help as to whether you 'should' or shouldn't continue taking the vitamin D.

Unfortunately, my answer isn't very helpful for you... Sorry...
