H Pylori & families

Is H Pylori inherited? My Mother's sister was diagnosed and treated years ago with it. My Mom never was diagnosed but had symptoms. I have acid reflux, bloating, constipation etc for years I am presently awaiting test results.

It's contagious

Hi Rosemary,

H pylori is CONTAGIOUS, it's not 'inherited'. Your question would sort of be like asking if strep threat was inherited because you and your kids had it at the same time. It's just a contagious illness.

The fact that your mother 'had symptoms' is meaningless since H pylori symptoms are non-specific and are the same for tons of other things. And until you are diagnosed positive, your symptoms do not mean that you have H pylori. You could just as easily have the same symptoms from many other things.
