Please read my page on Magnesium Dosage.

Since you are already taking so much magnesium, determine whether your symptoms are relieved or not. If you don't have symptoms, then decrease to the lowest dosage that you can that doesn't cause you to have symptoms.

But if you read the Signs of Magnesium Deficiency page and still have symptoms, then you may want to start getting regular magnesium blood levels to make sure that you are not overdosing. Blood levels ARE accurate to determine overdose or toxicity levels, but not accurate to determine your NEED for magnesium.

Also, while it may seem like you are taking a lot, it's almost certain that all of your magnesium is in the form of magnesium oxide which is poorly absorbed. If you were to take a magnesium that is better absorbed (meaning anything other than oxide), then you would probably require significantly less magnesium than you are taking now...

adrenal fatigue and Mg
by: Anonymous

I have had adrenal fatigue for some years and my worst symptom has been a 9 year diarrhea. This began with having to take a round of childhood vaccines because I lost my childhood records and I needed them to get into nursing school.
So Vit D helped for a couple of months but wasn't enough. Several other things would help for a month or two and then it would come back. PArasite cleanse included.
I had been taking 400 mg of Mg citrate but recently found that my diarrhea may be caused by high histamine and overactive mast cells in the gut. I upped my Mg and C as antihistamines and it worked. My stools are solid, but I must take enormous amounts of both these nutrients around the clock, If my bubbling starts in on the gut, I know I know it's time for more. I take 4000-6000 mg of C 4 X daily and 300-400 mg of Mg citrate on the same schedule. Often this allows me to sleep through the night as I get 3 am diarrhea that disrupts my sleep. But if I take it too early on, it seems to "run out" like today and up I am, taking more C and Mg at 3 am. I tend to have this histamine reaction not in the presence of food but when fasting. (like in the middle of the night). Very irritating. I don't seem to have much in the way of allergies, but rather like the autistic kids who have indiscernible allergy Sx. Indeed, I have tested negative for gluten intolerance, with two different tests, and am not lactose intolerant and am negative for H Pylori ( have a continuing duodenal ulcer). SO this really seems to be rooted in that stupid adrenal.
