Can you have H Pylori and not infect others?

Can one have this badly for YEARS and not infect one's spouse or other family or friends? It's contagious, isn't it? I have all the symptoms, but I'm the only one around me that has it. I've been on Omeprizole for several years and still need sodium bicarbonate and Rolaides, etc..

And I take double doses of the Omeprizole, already! I've changed my diet, no fried foods, no meat, no dairy, no processed, etc.. Extremely clean.. Only fresh produce, nuts, seeds and unprocessed ancestral grains ... I gave up alcohol 4 months ago... I drink a TON of water... I'm actually getting kind of afraid to eat, because EVERYTHING hurts! I'm DESPERATE to get off the Omeprizole, but I can't seem to stop BURNING!!

My stomach is always distended like I'm 7-8 months pregnant and I feel full and bloated .. Even though I don't eat much, and when I do, it's just a lite salad with home made dressing..
Anyway, HPylori??? Could this be it?

Have they been tested?

Hi Tara,

With your symptoms, it's certainly reasonable to get tested for H pylori as it definitely CAN cause some or all of the symptoms that you are experiencing, however, there are other things that can cause your symptoms as well, so the fact that it MIGHT be causing your symptoms does not mean that it IS causing your symptoms, so you do need to get tested to find out for sure.

But when you say that no one else has it, that may not be true at all. The vast majority of people who have it have no symptoms. So, it's possible that your entire family has it, and even that someone without symptoms gave it to you.

It's also possible that you are the only one that has it because, just like colds and flu, being infected by H Pylori is not ONLY dependent upon being exposed to the illness, but also having a weakened immune system that allows you to be infected.

Not everyone that comes into contact with someone who has a cold actually catches the cold, and it's the same with H pylori as well. Hi there I read your comment train and iv been the same for a while and it's held me back so so much .

Ask your doctor to test you for a yeast infection as the drugs you have been taking can cause it to look like h pylori

All the treatment will cause a yeast imbalance and that in turn can cause all kinds of symptoms from extra stress and crazy dreams to not even being able to drink water without chucking some up..
