Not insufficient, deficient
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

Hi Anitha,

That's a LOT of questions. I'll try to answer the Vitamin D Questions as best I can to help you out.

First, you actually have pretty severe deficiency and not just 'insufficiency'. If you take a look at the Normal Vitamin D Levels page, you'll see that your level should be around 40 to 80 to be 'optimal'.

If you are taking Over the Counter Vitamin D3 Supplements you could safely take 10,000 IU's per day until you get your next Vitamin D Level in about 3 months to make sure that it is coming up.

I don't know where you live, but you do not get any Vitamin D in Winter
south of 37 degrees latitude. While it's ALWAYS a good idea to get exercise (if you have no restrictions from your doctor) and go outside, it may or may not contribute to your Vitamin D Levels right now- depending upon where you live.

And yes, IF your pain is due to Vitamin D Deficiency, then when your levels come up, you will be likely to get significant relief!! Yeah!

But you'll be VERY glad that you got your Vitamin D Level before your pregnancy. I wish that everyone would. Take a look at the post on Getting Enough Vitamin D during Pregnancy. It's an eye opener!

Thanks for writing in. I hope that I answered your questions. Feel free to let me know if you have any more.
