Lots of problems with this
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

Hi Gloria,

There are LOTS of problems with this question. First of all, it sounds as though you are treating magnesium as if it were a drug. If you are having panic attacks because you are magnesium deficient, then taking magnesium for 2 or 3 days and expecting your panic attacks to disappear is unrealistic.

Magnesium is not a drug and you can't just take it and expect any symptoms to go away. If your panic attacks ARE due to magnesium deficiency, then you have to resolve what is probably a VERY long-standing magnesium deficiency and that might take MONTHS of the proper supplementation to resolve a deficiency.

Next, I get the feeling that you might have heard somewhere that '1000 mg of magnesium will fix your panic attacks'. Maybe it did in that person that you heard it from, but what KIND of magnesium did they take? How OFTEN throughout the day did they take small doses? How long did they take it for? What other symptoms did they have? How deficient were they? Did they change their diet? Did they start meditating? Were they taking other supplements such as Vitamin B6 that helps to absorb magnesium?

Expecting the exact same dosage taken once a day to 'fix' you because it fixed someone else who may have entirely different circumstances than you is, again, unrealistic to say the least.

So, if you want to supplement with magnesium, please read my page on Magnesium Dosage. But there are a THOUSAND other reasons why you might be getting panic attacks. What is your diet like? If you are eating sugar and processed foods, maybe you are getting panic attacks because your blood sugar levels drop after you eat a crappy dinner full of processed foods and sugary sodas.

Maybe you have Adrenal Gland Fatigue and you get too stressed out that your adrenal glands can't handle it- or your crappy dinner of processed foods puts too much stress on your adrenal glands. Maybe you're not getting enough sleep. Maybe you are deficient in B vitamins and can't absorb magnesium. Ma

My point is that expecting ONE big dose of magnesium to fix this problem without doing anything else is not the way that you should be looking at it and you are bound to have it fail and think that magnesium isn't going to help you...
