Magnesium that won't cause diarhea

Kerri,

Thanks for posting such a helpful answer. I'm going to give the foot baths and magnesium oil a try. Makes perfect sense. Thanks so much!!

why us there magnesium in so many things
by: Anonymous

For some reason I cant tolerate magnesium. It seems everything I like, has too much in it for me. Last night I drank grapefruit juice and had diarrhea all night.

Is there anything that I can do to change this. It's like taking a laxative. I do take quinine tablets for leg cramps and magnesium is in those too.

I don't think it's a problem with magnesium..

Well, I don't really know how much or if you are already taking magnesium. You should add up your magnesium and make sure that you are not already getting plenty and so you have reached bowel tolerance.

But if you haven't, then I don't necessarily think it's a magnesium problem. If you drink grapefruit juice and get diarrhea, it's not the magnesium because there's only about 20 mg of magnesium in grapefruit juice. That's certainly not enough to cause you any problems.

I'd say stop drinking grapefruit juice for one thing. Juice of any kind tends to be 'Hyperosmolar' meaning that the amount of solids - including sugars- in it are higher than your blood. So, juice CAN tend to 'pull' water into the bowel and cause diarrhea in some people.

So, avoid juices and see if that helps. Can you give me any other clues as to why you think that your diarrhea is due to magnesium?

Could it actually be due to Gluten Sensitivity?

magnesium sensitivity
by: Evelyn

I cannot tolerate magnesium in anything. If I even eat food that is rich in magnesium I get diarrhea. I have to check the ingredients on products like chips or other snacks because even a small amount causes diarrhea. I am under the care of a gastro dr and have been checked for gluten sensitivity etc. I have IBS with diarrhea and microscopic colitis but the one sure thing that does it to me is magnesium. I know it is good for everyone else but it makes my life a nightmare. I would really like to know if there is anything that I can do to change this. Thank you

Please read my information on Gluten Sensitivity

Please look to your left and click the button that says Gluten Sensitivity and read read read. You cannot be 'checked' for Gluten Sensitivity. If you have 'microscopic colitis' and IBS and diarrhea and other health problems, then it's almost certain that you have gluten sensitivity. And there is no test and no doctor that will be able to tell you whether you do or not. The only way to know for sure is to go gluten free and see if you improve.
