intersitual cystitis is there a link to gluten sensitivity ?

by b.

Ive been going from one doctor to another for 15 years looking for help! 5 years ago I was told I have interstitial cystitis, to take elmeron and a low grade antibiotic for the rest of my life. Then I began to develop yeast infections and extreme fatigue. I knew it was the line of treatment the doctors put me on.

So I quit the medications, and went herbal doing my own research and taking charge of my own health.

Flora and digestive enzymes have helped, and now Im taking a kidney cleanse which has raised my acidic ph to a balanced 6.5 ph. In my research I have come across this web site, and the gluten sensitivity is really making a lot of sense, my question to you is this.

Is there a connection here between the interstitial cystitis, the
kidneys, the ph balance of the body, and vitamin k ( in the kidney cleanse)to gluten sensitivity? and what else can I do to win this battle with IC?

Interstitial Cystitis...
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

Hi B,

Yes, there is most certainly a link. I've actually answered this question before so I'll refer you to this Interstitial Cystitis and Gluten Sensitivity page.

So, what I didn't mention on that page is that Gluten Sensitivity can affect the entire 'Mucosal Membrane' system. You see, you make 75% of your immune system in your digestive tract- most of which is responsible for defending your mucous membranes- which run from the insides of your ears and sinuses, into your mouth, your entire digestive tract, your vagina- and your bladder.

So, the other two things that could help you to win your battle are:

1) Have your Vitamin D level checked and get it up to researcher recommended normal Vitamin D Levels. Vitamin d can help to boost your immune system to help you fight off infections better.

2) Consider taking D Mannose instead of antibiotics at the first sign of a urinary tract infection.

D-mannose is like a MIRACLE for urinary tract infections. Instead of killing an infection, it simply makes your bladder wall slippery and the little buggers can't stick to it- very neat trick!! I love D- Mannose!

D Mannose Miracle for me, too
by: Sharon J

Two years ago I was diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis, too, and my doctors put me on expensive pain killers that made me impaired. They didn't even really help, either.

But then I learned about D Mannose Supplements and I have been taking 500 mg twice a day ever since, and I have not had any bladder problems in over a year and a half!

It is a great supplement that really does the trick. I don't even need to follow the IC diet any more! I eat whatever I want and no urgency or pain.. EVER!
