Headache...
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

Hi Deb,

While your headache COULD be a lanolin allergy, it could also be magnesium deficiency. If you read on my Vitamin D Side Effects page, it REQUIRES magnesium to convert vitamin d into its active form in the blood and thus it commonly causes Symptoms of Magnesium Deficiency.

It could also be a poor quality vitamin product that is using rancid oils. A common problem that can cause headache as well.

And as far as the research on Vitamin D2 being as good as Vitamin D3- they are RIGHT, Vitamin D2 is as good as vitamin d3 in bringing vitamin d levels up- that has never been a question.

So, if ALL that you want out of your vitamin d is to get high blood levels, than GREAT! Use vitamin D2. But Vitamin D3 has:

A Longer Duration of Action
Is Less Toxic
And is more 'biologically active' than D2

The last point is what is most important. If you read the paper The Case Against Ergocalciferol, you'll read the D2 is something like 1/2 (I can't remember the numbers now) as effective at acting on the 'Vitamin D Receptors' that are located in just about every single organ and tissue in the body.

So, Vitamin D2 works HALF as well as D3 at activating the GENES that are vitamin d sensitive (the VDR's). So, d2 may not even DO what vitamin d is SUPPOSED to do!!

So, if you ONLY want high blood levels (which was the ONLY outcome that the study that you referenced looked for), then great. But I personally want the immune, cancer and anti-inflammatory properties that Vitamin D brings. And the best way to do that is still taking the BIOINDENTICAL form of vitamin d that our bodies were designed to use over tens of thousands (hundreds of thousands!?) of years of evolution- and that is Vitamin D3.

I've also covered that subject several times in relationship to the study that you mentioned, the latest one being the thread entitled, You're Using the Wrong Science, Vitamin D2 is Equally As Effective as Vitamin D3.

So, please read that as well.

Headaches Vitamin D3
by: ED

Thank you! I could not understand why I got such bad headaches after taking my sub lingual D3. I even asked a Functional Medicine private Dr at great expense who said 'it wasn't possible". (The same thing happens with iodine plus heart palpitations).

Today I took my D3 plus extra magnesium in a liquid food form just as I started to get the headache. The headache went! The effect on my energy, lungs & breathing is enough to know I am on the right track. Last year my vitamin D levels were tested & they were low. I've had cfs/neuralgic issues for years. Now with the combination of D3, B12, magnesium & some zinc plus a herb to heal the nerve damage ... I am feeling well & normal!

Thank you so much!

By the way - for a few years I used topical magnesium chloride but it upset my kidneys which tests showed were not detoxing as well as they could. I don't know why this is. I think the kidney issue pre-dated the magnesium usage. My creatinine was 60 & I was 48 when I tested. Not horrendous but not optimum. Any ideas?
