Can't Take Vitamin D Capsules, Is There a Liquid?

by Tammy
(Maryland)

My (endocrinologist)doctor has given me a prescription for the vitamin D 50,000 IU Capsules to take one a week for 6 weeks and then repeat bloodwork due to a diagnosis of severe vitamin d deficiency..

My problem is this: I have trouble swallowing due to thyroid problems. So swallowing this capsule is out of the question...

So what I need to know is can I open this capsule and put the liquid in applesauce or something so that I can swallow the medication????

or is available in a liquid form?

I really want to take this medication but however due to the swallowing problem and it is a weekend I can not get in touch with the physician. I did ask the pharmacist who filled the prescription and he did not know the answer either.

I have also been researching this all over the internet and have yet to come across an answer for my question.

Please email me.

Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Blessing in Disguise

Hi Tammy,

This is really a blessing in disguise for you because the Vitamin D that your doctor gave you is Vitamin D2 and that is NOT the kind of Vitamin D that you want to take anyway!!

Read my page on Think Twice about Taking Prescription Vitamin D and see why I recommend that you don't take those pills even if you COULD swallow them!!

One liquid Vitamin D that you could try is Liquid Vitamin D3 or Vitamin D3 Gummies for Kids

Tammy, you might want to even wait to take the Vitamin D for 8 weeks before you get a level, 6 weeks is just simply too soon to get your level up high enough to matter and you'll end up having to get another Vitamin D level in another month anyway because you'll likely still be too low, so put off your blood test until about 8 weeks so you don't waste your time and your insurance company's money on lab tests that you don't need.

Vit D

I'm about to lose it with this vitamin D. I have a script for 50,000 iu weekly. I was told, oil goes bad, powder is not good ONLY use lanolin oil. OK, so where do I get it and is all this information correct? What is the REAL STORY on vit D. I've taken D for years and can't get past 50 I need to be up to at least 80 because of my CFS, Fibro and Epstein Barr. I know all the pluses and minuses I just need to know which is most absorbable that won't go rancid...IS POWDER that bad. I know there's a lot of filler. Now U know why I am about to loose it
please respond

About to lose it over vitamin d??

CeeCee,

If you are about to lose it over deciding which vitamin d to take AND you have Fibro and aren't absorbing vitamin d, then you need MAGNESIUM- and LOTS of it!! Magnesium deficiency prevents the absorption of vitamin d, leads to worry and anxiety and is one of the main causes of many fibro symptoms..
