Wow! I might have a solution..

Hi Libby,

I might actually have a solution that will take care of ALL of these issues all at once! I really think that it is likely that you have Gluten Sensitivity, and that is what is causing all of these problems.

Each ONE of these symptoms SHOULD have been enough for your doctor to suspect and test for Celiac Disease, the medically recognized form of Gluten Sensitivity:

Digestion Problems
Unexplained Stomach Pains
Inability to get pregnant
Unexplained low vitamin b12 levels

In Italy, any woman who has no reason not to get pregnant and can't is screened for Celiac Disease and it's being found that infertility and/or women who can't maintain their pregnancies have Celiac Disease at LEAST 5 to 10 times higher than the rest of the population.

But if you have stomach pains AND can't absorb Vitamin B12- then it is practically ASSURED that you have SOME DEGREE of Gluten Sensitivity.

So, now the problem becomes, do you talk to your doctor and get tested? Or simply go on a Gluten Intolerance Diet and see if that helps you?

Read the Diagnosing Gluten Allergy page and you'll see why that becomes a problem. But because of all of your symptoms, it's possible that you might test positive, and then you'll have 'proof' of what your problem is AND you can be very careful with the introduction of gluten to your children- who would be likely to also have Celiac Disease if you do!

So, you have a decision to make, but if you decide to get tested, you MUST be eating gluten regularly or your test will be negative. In fact, I tell people that they should eat TONS OF GLUTEN- even an excessive amount in the 3 to 4 days leading up to their blood test- that is, if your doctor will even help you with the testing at all!! Which they may not believe that it is 'indicated' to test you... Always a problem.
