Pregnancy Does NOT Cause Vitamin D Deficiency...
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

Hi,

So, first of all, Pregnancy does NOT cause vitamin d deficiency. Your doctor has NO IDEA what she is talking about and should not be telling you something so ridiculous. Not getting enough vitamin d causes vitamin d deficiency. It's only because your pregnant and new guidelines say that you should be tested that you now know about it. But it's likely that you've been vitamin d deficient for many years- only you've just not been tested for it.

And you were VERY likely vitamin d deficient during your previous pregnancies, but no one was testing levels then. But you SHOULD be concerned!! Please read my page on Vitamin D in Pregnancy to see the possible problems that could arise from being vitamin d deficient while pregnant.

While you can worry about that all you want, what you need to do is become sufficient, but PLEASE don't take that prescription. Please read my page on Prescription Vitamin D to see why your doctor should NOT be giving you that prescription!!

And then please make sure that you read my page on Normal Vitamin D Levels to see why you should NOT rely on the levels on your lab sheet, but get your level between 50 to 80 ng/ml, which is much higher.

Plus, be sure to read my page on Vitamin D and Breastfeeding so that you'll know to continue those high dosages for the entire time that you are breastfeeding in order to get enough vitamin d for the baby.

OK. That's a LOT of info. Read all that and let me know if you have any questions...
