What is the name of the Vitamin D that is compounded?

by Kathie Wells
(Forney, TX)

I have a very low Vitamin D level, and my physician wants to start me on prescription strength Vitamin D. Do I need to ask for a prescription for Vitamin D3?

--------

ANSWER:

Hi Kathy,

No, D3 does not COME in a prescription form and you do not need to get it 'compounded' or get it 'prescription strength' or to a special pharmacy to get it.

You can simply buy Vitamin D3 Supplements in the largest dose pills that you can find and take them in the same dose per week.

So, for instance, the supplements that I offer Here are 5000 IU's per pill.

If your doctor wants you to take Prescription Vitamin D at a dose of 50,000 IU's per week, then you can simply take 10 pills of 5,000 IU's per week for the same dose.
