Vitamin D Helps to Get Rid of Acne...
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

Wow! I'm sorry to hear that your acne has returned with a vengeance. If the only thing that's changed is the vitamin d, then let's assume that it is that and see what we can do.

So, my first thought, however, is that vitamin d actually HELPS to get rid of acne. In fact, here's a link to a study on Vitamin D and Acne where a dermatologist gives an account of over 100 patients that he used Vitamin D as the exclusive treatment for their acne.

So, what I believe is the problem- and I see it over and over again- is the fact that many vitamin d preparations are packed in oil- and many times the oil in the preparations has gone rancid. This rancid oil causes a LOT of problems- and people who take vitamin d believe that it's the Vitamin D causing the problems when it's simply the rancid oil.

So, please get off of your oil containing supplements and get some Oil Free Vitamin D Supplements. I would love to hear if this solved your problem.

D2 50000IU Causing Severe Acne
by: Anonymous

Hi, I read previous posts stating if you start getting severe acne after taking vitamin d, it is possible that it's the oil being rancid. My question is, if I am taking prescription strength vitamin d 50000IU once a week, of course this was prescribed due to a severe deficiency, what should I do?

The dry vitamin d that you suggest does not come in this large amount. I am not sure where to go from here.

I am on my seventh week of taking vitamin d 50000IU due to my deficiency and since taking it, my face looks like Avatar. I have never in my life had Acne, maybe a pimple here and there.

I am thinking it may be the rancid oil. I got my prescription filled at Target. I went to a dermatologist yesterday and she claims its not vitamin d, but I disagree. I am taking several things for my face that she gave me, but in afraid to take my weekly vitamin d dose today.

What do you suggest I do since I required to take 50000IU, which is only by prescription?

Any help is much appreciated.

take 10 pills per week...
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

The 'dry' vitamin d that I have is in capsules of 5000 IU's per capsule. That equals 10 capsules per week.

There is no reason that you 'must' take one 50,000 IU pill once a week or that you 'must' take it once a week. Simply taking 10 pills throughout the week is a perfectly acceptable substitute...

Vitamin D and Acne
by: PNW

Looks like we all have a new VD! My personal story is very similar to everyone else. I was put on Vitamin D one (horse) pill a week for 3 months. I'm not sure of doseage however it was a pill and not a capsule with oil. In 37 years I've never even got a blemish on my face which I was extremely lucky I guess, but now since initiation of VD my back has severely broken out with huge nickel sized what appears like zits but don't have puss in them. It's radically unhumane to say the least. My Dr just says it'll go away but I've seen little improvement in the last 2 weeks since stoppage. I run 5 miles 5 times weekly, eat healthy and drink bundles of water..so I'm at a loss. I did start lifting weights again about 5 months ago to successfully lose the last 10 lbs of a 50lb goal of mine I set a year ago. My stats are athletic, 6ft tall 180lb male. I've had blood tests, STD tests, liver tests, etc and everything was perfect accept a low vitamin D which I attribute to living in the PNW. What is the answer??

16 all over again
by: Anonymous

Dr. started me on Prednisone and Vit D. In 2 days, blood sugar spiked to unacceptable levels( I'm hypoglycaemic), and started breaking out with acne on face. Really sore acne and takes days to heal. Stopped the prednisone, still taking 4000mi Vit D . Still breaking out, with cyists now. Skin is oily now also. Some days look like a glazed doughnut. Feel like I'm 16 again, popping zits!!

I cut back to 2000mi of Vit D now, not much better. I'm on gel capsule, wife is taking dry pill. She is now breaking out with facial acne. Seems to be a lot of people having issue with Vit D.

Dry chewable Vitamin D and Acne
by: Anonymous

I have a long history of acne that has finally cleared in my late 30's early 40's. I live the the PNW where we have cloud cover most of the winter so I began taking vitamin D in oil capsules. My acne came back in full force.

I stopped taking it and I once again had clear skin. I switched to a dry chewable Vitamin D and the acne came right back. From now on I'll find ways to send more time outside or even tan once or twice a month.

D2 and acne
by: Phillip

Stumbled upon this website after a desperate search online. My story echos the stories of so many told here - painful acne breakout and cystic acne. First time in my life I find myself at a dermatologist ... had to buy the latest wonder wash and acne treatment. He reluctantly gave me a prescription of Doxycycline which had NO effect. I am 50, am drinking a lot of water, cutting out breads and sugars as far as possible and have never had acne so bad.

Six months ago, after the long winter of 2017-18, I too were prescribed the 1.25MG Vitamin D2. After reading about everyone's similar experience I am convinced that, at least in my case the weekly 50 000 unit of Vit D2 at least is a trigger and will only be drinking up the sunshine, as my source of Vit B2 for the remainder of the summer!
