Vitamin D Supplements
There are More than One Kind

Looking for Vitamin D Supplements? There are two different KINDS that you should be aware of.

  • Vitamin D2- Also Called Ergocalciferol
  • Vitamin D3- Also Called Cholecalciferol

What is the difference? While the difference APPEARS small and insignificant, it is really a VERY significant difference. In fact, one of the premier vitamin D researchers, Dr. Reinhold Vieth outlined the many differences between the two supplements and came to the conclusion,

"Vitamin D2, or ergocalciferol, should not be
regarded as a nutrient suitable for supplementation..."

Unfortunately, all PRESCRIPTION Vitamin D, whether in pills or
Vitamin D Injections is in the form of Vitamin D2- or Ergocalciferol.

Also, most vitamin D comes in tiny doses such as 400 IU's or 800 IU's. These doses are based on RDA and other governmental recommendations that give us the minimum requirements in order to prevent Rickets- a childhood bone disease. But current research says that these doses are completely inadequate for 'Optimal' health, and most researchers believe that we need up to TEN TIMES that dose every day!

One other problem with many vitamin D preparations is the other ingredients that they contain. Often they contain oil stabilizers that carry the vitamin D. Many of these are in the form of oils that are either simply not good for your health, such as:

  • Cottonseed Oil
  • Soybean Oil
  • Corn Oil
  • Canola Oil

and either these fats have been turned into the heart clogging TRANS FATS OR they could turn rancid unless they are fresh. But even with a date on the bottle, you have no idea how long that oil was sitting on the shelf BEFORE it was made into vitamin D. So your only safe bets are to have them made either WITHOUT an oil stabilizer OR in Coconut Oil (can also be called MCT)- which does not go rancid.

You also want to avoid Cod Liver Oil. Some people believe that Cod liver oil is a good vitamin D supplement, but for a variety of reasons, it is NOT a good supplement.

So, the three things that you want to look for in a vitamin D supplement are:

  1. Vitamin D3- Or Cholecalciferol
  2. A Clinically Significant Dose
  3. Carried without oil or in Coconut Oil (MCT)

The Longevity Plus Vitamin D Supplement (below) fulfills all of these requirements and is my choice for an adult vitamin D supplement.

New evidence is emerging that Vitamin D levels are too low for optimal health in the majority of us. This can compromise the health of our bones and immune system, which leads to increased need for this nutrient for most of us to maintain healthy prostate, breast, and nerve tissues.*
