Hi Tricia,

I've answered similar questions to yours on dozens of thread and have many pages addressing these questions. You can start with the following pages:

Vitamin D Absorption- please read this page and then go to the very bottom of the page to see the MANY threads where I've answered similar/same questions about absorption.

I do not know if your problems are 'all' due to vitamin d deficiency, but probably not since something is blocking your absorption, which means that you are either not absorbing in your intestines (which is likely causing some/many of your issues) and/or you are deficient in magnesium, vitamin A or vitamin K and/or you are eating crappy vegetable oils instead of good fats.

So, 'just' bringing up your vitamin d levels is not likely to be enough. Your vitamin d levels not coming up are a symptom that something else is going on in your body or your diet that you need to correct before you are going to get better. One of the things that you are missing is that Vitamin D is a NUTRIENT, not a drug. It cannot be taken in isolation, and there are many many 'Vitamin D Cofactors' that are required for proper vitamin D absorption and conversion into it's active form. I've put together a Vitamin D Absorption Pack for just this reason. It's asking for low absorption and more side effects when you 'just' take vitamin d.

Cannot Absorb Good or Bad Fats
by: Anonymous

Kerri,

Is there any advice you have for people who cannot absorb fats? Tests to take, treatments to investigate? I came to this conclusion because of: the color, and consistency of my stool, its buoyancy, the pain in my abdomen and chest that fats--coconut oil, EFAs like krill oil (even MUFAs like avocado) cause me, the fact that I also have no improvement in Vitamin D levels even with 1/2 hour daily sunbathing, and I feel no improvement in my energy or well-being from vitamin supplementation.

Please read the same Vitamin D Absorption page that I sent the last person to. It has the answer about why you can't absorb fats and what to do about it. You should also read my pages on Gluten Sensitivity, as you almost certainly have some degree of gluten sensitivity, and possibly even full blown Celiac Disease. Enzymes can be taken to help digest fats, but you'll almost certainly need to get off of gluten so that you can start absorbing again. It's EXTREMELY unlikely that you only have a problem of an inability to digest fats, you almost certainly are not absorbing a lot of other nutrients, so 'just' taking enzymes to digest fats will not solve this problem.
