Vitamin D and the Heart
by: Kerri Knox, RN-The Immune Health Queen!

Hi Len,

There is much research that Vitamin D Deficiency is related to heart problems and that people with heart problems have a lower mortality when their Vitamin D Levels are within normal range.

Unfortunately, 1000 IU's will likely NEVER get your levels to within normal range. Even though this dose is above the RDA, here and in Canada, many researchers recommend a maintenance dose of 1000 IU's for a newborn infant!

Most of the time, doctors who know about Vitamin D deficiency will treat Vitamin D with 50,000 IU's once or twice a week for 6 to 12 weeks- depending upon the severity of your Vitamin D Deficiency.

Then after deficiency treatment, one usually needs about 30 IU's per pound of body weight EACH DAY for maintenance. That works out to be about 5000 IU's a day for an 'average' 170 pound person!

So, usually it's rather inconvienient to take 5 or 10 vitamin D pills every day. Most people would prefer to take a larger dose all at once. Unfortunately, they are hard to find in stores, so I offer Vitamin D3 Supplements in 5000 IU capsules for convenience.

While it's a great thing that you have discovered your deficiency and are getting it corrected, you should talk to your doctor about a much higher dosage of vitamin D for your initial treatment.

Palpitations
by: Pam

I get Heart Palpitations once in a while which were deemed benign by a cardiologist.

However, on days I take Vitamin D3 Supplements the palpitations greatly increase. Is this a coincidence?

Palpitations and Vitamin D

Hi Pam,

I'm thinking that it might just not be coincidental. You may very well be magnesium deficient, which is likely to be causing your heart palpitations in the FIRST PLACE- and rather than being benign, it is a sign that you have undiagnosed Magnesium Deficiency!

(But Magnesium Levels are worthless because 99% of the magnesium in your body is in your cells and not IN your blood- so testing your blood is worthless)

And the Vitamin D Connection there COULD BE that you get slightly more magnesium deficient when you take Vitamin D because the conversion of the pills into the active form in your blood requires magnesium in order to work, so therefore you get worsening heart palpitations.

To remedy this situation, simply take magnesium. I recommend that you take it every day and it fairly high doses. It's AMAZINGLY safe and you simply get loose stools if you take too much. I tell you how to get the right Magnesium Dosage for you. I'm betting that you find that you begin to feel better when you start taking magnesium.

And your "benign" Heart Palpitations just MIGHT go away! How great would that be! I highly suggest that you download the Ebook Magnesium Medicine to understand better the effects that magnesium deficiency can have and what you can do about them.
