Only the start of what you need to do to get better.

Hi Amy,

Wow! A vitamin d level of 5.6 is REALLY low- practically nonexistent. In fact a level of less than 4 is not even measured- it just reads as 'less than 4', so I'm not joking when I say that it's almost nonexistent. I'm surprised that you are still working!

Unfortunately, taking vitamin d is a start, I have a LOT of comments about the issues that you are experiencing- first of all the vitamin d.

So, 50,000 IU's for 8 weeks is going to be very insufficient for someone with a level as low as yours. You will likely need double or triple that amount to reach optimal levels and you may not feel better until you reach those levels- so at 50,000 IU's per week, you're probably going to still feel crappy for another 5 to 6 months.

Also, please read my page on Prescription Vitamin D. Your NP is not doing you any favors by giving you a prescription. Then you say that you are starting 'calcium and magnesium' with the vitamin D. While it's true they need to work in harmony and balance, when people tell me they are starting 'calcium and magnesium', it's almost always in the form of a 'calcium and magnesium' pill which is overly heavy on the calcium and light on the magnesium.

I actually don't recommend that people take more calcium than what is present in a multivitamin because most people already get tons of calcium. Worry about getting enough magnesium and not so much (or not at all) about the calcium.

Next, if you are THAT deficient in Vitamin D, you have thyroid, cholesterol and blood pressure issues and you work in a hospital, then I suspect that:

A) You get very little exercise
B) Your diet is, ahemmm, less than optimal...

By taking a few nutrients, that's a good start, but I doubt that's going to get you feeling your best and it's certainly not going to do much of anything for your high blood pressure and cholesterol. So, you are going to need to revamp your diet and lifestyle if you really want to get more energy and actually change your fairly severe health patterns.

I highly suggest that you get started by taking a look at a program called The 60 Day Cholesterol Cure by a former cardiac surgeon turned alternative health practitioner. His views on cholesterol and heart disease will likely SHOCK you and turn your beliefs about heart disease and health 180 degrees!
