Taking a Vitamin D Supplement

by Melissa P
(Littleton, CO)

I do not have insurance but suspect I may be Vitamin D deficient and I do not have the money to pay for a blood test to confirm it. Is it safe to just take a multi-vitamin AND an additonal Vitamin D supplement if I suspect I am D deficient?

Thank you!

Safety is relative
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

Hi Melissa,

Safety is a very relative issue. In some instances, NOT doing something is more dangerous over the long term than 'doing something'.

So, answer this question for me:

Is is safer to go for a hike in the woods 3 times a week or to sit on the couch and watch TV instead.

While you could get eaten by a bear or a cougar, or someone could mug you, you could twist an ankle or break a leg or get lost and die of thirst in the woods, the 'quick' answer is that sitting on the couch is 'safer'.

But the 'long term' answer is that you are probably going to die of a heart attack a lot early by NOT going on that hike 3 times a week, so in the long term, it just might be MORE dangerous.

This is the same thing with not getting a vitamin d level before you start taking Vitamin D. As long as you don't take more than 10,000 IU's per day, you are not going to 'overdose' and that will be 'safe' for you. But the danger lies in what you are NOT doing.

By NOT getting a level, you may not be taking the right amount of Vitamin D to get any benefit from it!

So, in the long run, it may be much more dangerous because you are getting LESS Vitamin d than you need.

And if you can afford to buy a vitamin D supplement, then you can afford to get a $40 In Home Vitamin D Test from Grassroots Health as a part of their Vitamin D Research Study.

So, I'll make a deal with you, if you get a Vitamin D Test from Grassroots Health, I'll save you money on your Vitamin D by giving you access to my clients-only area to get 15% of of an $18 bottle of Vitamin D that will last you about 6 months and save you money over anything that you can get at the health food store over the grocery store.

Here's how to get the Vitamin D:

1) Go to the Clients-Only area of my website.

2) Sign into the Emerson Ecologics area with the password

kerrik

3) Create an account

4) When you get to the first product page there, scroll down to the product called "Liqui D3" and put that into your cart.

I do believe that you will be able to afford a total of about $65 to get a test and 6 months worth of vitamin D- if your health is that important to you. Unfortunately for many of us, it's hard to see the long-term benefits for the short-term sacrifices.

But this is why our health care system is broken, we want short term fixes instead of long term real solutions- and that's exactly what we are getting and it's making us very sick.
