Skin Reaction from Vitamin D
by: Kerri Knox, RN-The Immune Queen!

It's likely that the skin reaction you are experiencing if from whatever carrier or filler is WITH the Vitamin D and not from the Vitamin D ITSELF.

So, your best bet is to try different vitamin D formulations to see which doesn't cause you to have a reaction.

The one that I would recommend FIRST is Longevity Plus Vitamin D Supplements that are packed 'dry' with no oil to go rancid.

Otherwise, if you still react to that, you may have to rely on getting your Vitamin D from the sun.

Hope that this helps.

hives and rash
by: Patty

I have been on Vit D 50000IU since 6-6-10. I take l capsule once a week with no problems until I had a back treatment with hydocortisone. The next day I had a rash, which at first thought I was biten by a mosquito, but later that night broke out all over.

Several days later had another treatment for my back same thing. Stopped taking the treatments, however still am fighting this rash. I have scratched so much have broken my skin.

Could the treatment had a reaction along with the Vitamin D?

Ummm. It's the hydrocortisone..

Hi Patty,

So, you're telling me that you've taken your Vitamin D for over a month without any problems, then you got a rash after a HYDROCORTISONE TREATMENT, then you got another hydrocortisone treatment and got a rash again.

And you are telling me that you think it might be the vitamin d? Umm. It's probably the hydrocortisone- stop getting it!!

By the way, please read my page on Prescription Vitamin D to see why you should get off of that stuff and get onto simple over the counter Vitamin D Supplements. Prescription is NOT always better!!

And I'm curios why you are needing hydrocortisone treatments for you back.

Itchy skin after shower
by: Jan

Hi - After having read the posts here, I am fairly certain that the Vitamin D supplements I have been taking are causing my back and shoulders to break out in hives after I shower.I started the Vitamin D two days ago, and that is the only thing I have changed in my diet and routine.

Thank you for the information!

Chronic hives...Vit D deficient?
by: Kelly

I have had chronic hives for the past 3.5 months. No one can seem to find out why. It's winter here in Maine and I am basically a shut in! Both my parents are Vitamin D deficient in one way or another, could this be my problem too?

Winter, dry air, heating systems, hives since Dec 4th, 2011. I called today to see if my allergist will run a vitamin panel.

Itchy Skin from Vit D
by: Anonymous

After 2 weeks of taking vitamin D3, my skin began to break out in rashes and the itching was horrible.

The Vitamin D3 supplement never occurred to me it could be the problem since I was instructed by my doctor to take 2,000 a day immediately. After 2 weeks of misery, it finally dawned on me maybe it could be the vitamin.

I stopped it and the itchy and rash went completely away. Decided I would still need the vitamin D but found if I pulled back on the amount, I was fine.

magnesium
by: Anonymous

I see multiple comments about issue being low grade vitamin D and not an allergic reaction which is disappointing. I assure you there are sensitivities manifested as skin rashes and inching when one can not properly process the vitamin. This is common, not very rare among individuals who are also low in magnesium. Magnesium and vitamin D are what I call sister vitamins. Take a high quality magnesium along with your vitamin d.
