Sinus Burning and Congestion from H Pylori

by darlene

I have been experiencing persistent, horrible burning sensations in my esophagus and throat, and gnawing pain in my stomach which I know can be symptoms of h. pylori, but I have also been having chronically swollen and congested nasal passages, and a raw feeling up high in my nose like the way it feels right after you have vomited. Can my sinus problems be connected to my gut problems?

I was tested twice several years ago for h. pylori, but it was negative both times. Could I have picked it up since I was last tested? I am 59 years old, and since beginning the menopausal transition at age 42, I have felt like my body is falling apart with one weird symptom after another!

Hi Darlene,

You could certainly have picked up H pylori in the past few years. You could have got it the day after you were tested! If you are having new symptoms, then it's not a bad idea to be tested again.

And your sinus problems COULD be from your gut issues. They are both connected via the same tissue called 'mucosa' that runs all through your mouth, sinuses, digestive tract- even your bladder and vagina. So, while it's not 'usual' to have those connected, there would certainly be the possibility that you have a sensation of sinus burning if you are having esophageal reflux.

So, get tested for the H Pylori Bacteria again if you think that might be the problem. But if you test negative, you may want to think seriously about making a few dietary changes since that is likely to be the problem.

Surprisingly, the sensation of esophageal reflux and Too Much Stomach Acid is often exactly the opposite- too LITTLE stomach acid and poor eating habits that have contributed to low stomach acid conditions.
