Not a Coincidence...
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

Hi Claire,

No, it's NOT a coincidence. Vitamin d 'uses up' magnesium in order to convert into it's active form in your blood. When you already have mild to moderate magnesium deficiency, then you can get Signs of Magnesium Deficiency- like ringing in the ears.

Please consider taking magnesium as outlined on my Magnesium Dosage page. Please DO continue the vitamin d as you are deficient and you need it. It's not the vitamin d that is causing it, but your underlying magnesium deficiency.

If you've taken the magnesium for a couple of weeks and it doesn't help, let me know as there are some other supplements, such as Lipoic Acid Supplements that you can add on that can also be of help as well.

Claire, I also suspect that you are taking a prescription for vitamin d?

Please read my page on Prescription Vitamin D to see why that is NOT a good idea and why you should simply be on Vitamin D3 Supplements at the same dosage.

Ringing in ears
by: Denice

Hi,

I read with interest your comments on ringing in the ears after taking vitD3. I was tested as deficient late last year and after 6 months on Vitamib D3 the ringing in my ears started quite suddenly with no cause. I have been tested as magnesium deficient previously but have been taking magnesium while in the D3. Once the magnesium is increased how long would it take for the ringing to stop if it caused by magnesium deficiency?

Thanks Denice

Check out your K2!!
by: Craig

I believe this is what caused my tinnitus. I have always supplemented with D3 at relatively moderate doses (2,000-3,000IU/day.) I am now magnesium depleted from other health factors (bunch of surgeries for injuries) and my tinnitus went berserk!

The magnesium is seeping in slowly both orally and through my skin but no change after two weeks. I won't expect much for a few months.

In my adventures on line I discovered a pretty siignificant factor in the magnesium/D3 regulation relationship is vitamin K2, in both its Mk-4 and Mk-7 forms. K2 deficiency is as rampant as magnesium deficiency and apparently contributes considerably to the inability to convert vitamin d into its form used by cells to trigger aptosis and other critical metabolic functions. (I can't remember what that is :-/ )
I'm supplementing with the MK-7 form as well as the magnesium... like Kerri sells in the Vitamin D Absorption Pack. We'll see... this ringing has gotta stop.
