Now you only need about 3500 IU's More Every Day!
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

I'm not sure if your post was meaning to extol its virtues, but 800 IU is a maintenance dose for a NEWBORN INFANT and not a 50+ woman!

According to the experts that I've outlined on the Normal Vitamin D Level page, most people need between 3800 to 5000 IU's per day for a MAINTENANCE DOSE and that's not if you are deficient- which most people are.

Your One-a-day also contains Calcium in Carbonate Form, which is the least absorbable form- but the cheapest.

The magnesium is only 50 mg- while most people need well upwards of 200 mg per day- and is in the form of Magnesium Oxide, which is the LEAST absorbable magnesium.

The Vitamin C dosage is pitiful. Most alternative health experts believe that you should get at least 1000 mg of vitamin c per day to combat oxidative damage.

It's Vitamin E Content is a mere 33 IU's, while most nutrition experts believe we should all be taking about 400 IU's per day- and the One a day form of Vitamin E is in the form of Alpha Tocopherol, while the preferred form is to get mixed tocopherols- and the IDEAL form is Tocotrienols.

It's vitamin K is in the form of K-1 which is synthetic and has a short half-life. Vitamin K2 in the form of menaquinone-7 has a MUCH longer half life and is a natural- as opposed to a synthetic source of Vitamin K.

It also contains- as fillers:

Polyethylene Glycol- AKA Antifreeze
Artificial Flavor
Maltodextrin
Glucose
FD&C Yellow #5
FD&C Blue #2

Do we really need to be ingesting ANTIFREEZE with our vitamins! Overall, I give it a D-. It's a really terrible choice for a multivitamin.

Now, compare the One a Day 50+, which has all of its ingredients Here and compare those ingredients to the two multivitamins that I recommend:

1) Dr. Mercola's Whole Food Multivitamin with Minerals- it contains 5000 IU's of Vitamin D and 600 mg of magnesium! Not your normal multi.

2) Longevity Plus's Beyond Any Multiple- it has very little vitamin D because you are intended to use it along with their Vitamin D Supplements for a complete multi.
