Methylcobalamin & breastfeeding

by Lucy
(United Kingdom)

I have been researching online and have found there is little information about safe levels of methylcobalamin while breastfeeding. Are you able to provide me with any info or point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Lucy

Not enough info
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune System Queen

Hi Lucy,

There is simply not enough info out there for anyone to be 100% sure of the safety of taking high dose methylcobalamin while breastfeeding. What I CAN tell you is that if you are Vitamin B12 deficient and WERE vitamin b12 deficient throughout pregnancy, then there is a high risk that your baby is also vitamin b12 deficient, and breastfeeding puts her at an even HIGHER risk for Vitamin B12 deficiency.

So, you'll need to weigh the unknown risks of taking B12 during breastfeeding with the very well known neurologic risks of babies being Vitamin B12 deficient.

And you should also consider the reasons WHY you might be Vitamin B12 deficient and correct these issues. Being a young mother who is vitamin B12 deficient is simply not normal.

I'm also breastfeeding and have read that taking methylcobalamin and methylfolate can Kickstart the methylation pathways causing detox. Thoughts on this?
