Yes..
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

Yes, she could be constipated because of lack of magnesium in her diet. But it could also be due to a lack of fiber. There is little magnesium in either milk or meat, so that doesn't give me any information about whether she is getting food with magnesium or getting enough fiber.

The one thing that people tend to overlook in constipation is FAT. Most people are so fearful of fat that they avoid it and get little fat in their diet.

Maybe your daughter is not getting enough fat and/or she is eating processed foods. Processed foods are terrible for you and can lead to constipation as can Gluten Sensitivity.

With your daughter being so young and already being chronically constipated, she is setting out on a road that could be VERY negative for her health for the rest of her life.

It's EXTREMELY important that you get down to the reason why your daughter is constipated and get her to where she is having a bowel movement every day without taking laxatives such as miralax...

Thank you

Thank you for your quick response!
I give her fiber supplements...I use clear organic fiber from Renewlife. I find the fiber perhaps make her BM's small and very pasty. She tries to go and all that comes out is very small amount of glue like substance. I also have found yeasty poop from time to time(marked by mucousy strings in BM).
She also takes a daily vitamin and eats tons of fruit. She does eat PB& J alot, pasta, grilled cheese...soup..things like that. I cut down her sugar intake and she still doesn't go on her own. we were doing Fleet Glycerin suppositores to help her go too.
She has an ppt with a GI doc next month, but I'm not very keen on them since they did nothing to help my Autistic 6 yr old boy who has chronic diarrhea due to bacteria and yeast overgrowth. They really don't even acknowledge yeast in the gut.

I hope I can figure out the rpoblem b/f too much times go by, it is so frustrating to not be able to help her.

Also, could Mag deficiency cause her to pick at her lips to the point that they bleed? I find the lips look better after she has the Mag Citrate.

Thanks for your help and advice!

Your kids are gluten intolerant...
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

If you have one child that is severely constipated and one that is autistic, I can almost guarantee that your kids have Gluten Sensitivity and/or casein (the protein in milk) intolerance. These are very common intolerances in autistic kids (as is magnesium deficiency) and can lead to constipation and neurologic dysfunction.

The foods that you mentioned that you are giving your daughter that you believe are good for her are actually pretty junky AND full of gluten!!!

While that's great that you are trying to limit sugar, what do you think makes fruit sweet?? Sugar.

And what is in her 'J' of the PB&J?? Sugar!

How about her peanut butter?? If it's not the natural kind that is 'just' ground peanuts and nothing else, then it's full of sugar and also trans fats that are horrible.

Pasta- full of gluten and white flour (even if it says wheat).

Grilled Cheese- full of gluten, white flour (and unless it's natural organic cheese, you are pumping her full of hormones- and trans fats if it's the American Cheese in the plastic individual wrappers).

and I'm betting that they drink non-organic pasteurized dairy too, yuck!!

So, I would EXPECT her to be constipated with a diet like that!! Yipes. It's also extremely nutrient poor as well...

I would suggest that you do an entire revamp of both your kids diets as they are obviously sensitive to the 'Standard American Diet' (SAD) and are not thriving on it.

I HIGHLY suggest that you get the book(s)- preferably both-

The Body Ecology Diet

and

Nourishing Traditions

These are probably two of the most important books on nutrition that you will ever read and that will make the biggest difference in your kids'(and your) health.

Your kids are really on a path to have ill health their whole life and you have GOT to get them off of the SAD diet and onto a healthy diet ASAP...
