Low Blood Ca, Low Na and Anemia

by Suze

Just had cbc blood work to prepare for a ct scan for severe chronic constipation for many years and is progressively getting worse. Liver and kidneys are normal but the test detected the above along with low anemia levels....

Sodium level is 8.6, anemia is 36, not sure of the calcium level. Would this have anything to do with my main issue of constipation? Otherwise I am a healty 57 yr female, very active, running, weight resistance, yoga, eating healthy etc.

Thank You

You are most certainly not healthy

Hi Suze,

I have to disagree with you that you are 'healthy' and that you 'eat healthy'. If you have such severe constipation for so long that you are seeing doctors and getting CT scans for it, then you are NOT healthy.

And if you have chronic constipation, then by definition you are NOT eating healthy because if you were, you would not have chronic constipation. Maybe you are following the governmental food pyramid and eating what the press tells you is good for you, but in my opinion that advice is a health DISASTER.

Unless you are eating a strict paleolithic diet, are a raw vegan or are following the Weston A Price diet, then you are NOT eating healthy.

Next, if you have low calcium, low sodium and anemia, then you are also probably vitamin d deficient as well and also deficient in a bunch of other things that they can't even test for. A low calcium level means that you have not been absorbing calcium for many years and that your bones have been losing calcium all of this time putting you at GREAT risk for osteoporosis if you don't actually have it to some degree already.

All of this means that you have severe malabsorption. This is almost CERTAINLY due to undiagnosed Celiac Disease, which would also explain your chronic constipation.

I would encourage you to GET OFF OF GLUTEN, CORN, SOY, GRAINS, PROCESSED FOOD, SUGAR and DAIRY- and do it YESTERDAY! And as far as eating healthy, I encourage you to get and follow the instructions in The Healthy Urban Kitchen. If you don't have any weight to lose, just ignore that part, that's just for marketing.

The program is the most sound eating program I've seen, I recommend it to all my clients as the diet that improves health the most and it's how my husband and I personally eat on a regular basis.

This will redefine what you think is a 'healthy' diet. What you are eating now is NOT and your health is suffering greatly because of it...
