Why Do You Not Think That It's Low Enough
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

Hi Rachel,

I'm very curious to know why you don't think that a level of 18 is low enough to cause your multiple stress fractures??

While the 'low normal' on many tests is 30, the 'optimal' range is between 40 to 50 ng/ml. So, your levels are less than half of normal. Try functioning with less than half of your required water intake, food intake, Vitamin B12 intake or just about 1/2 of the proper intake of anything else that your body needs for long periods of time and see what happens.

A level of 18 puts you at risk for not only bone health problems, but:

Diabetes
Many cancers
Multiple Sclerosis

and LOTS of other problems. I suggest that you rethink what you 'think you know' about vitamin d and read more on my site about what happens when you have low levels of vitamin D.

Of particular interest to you might be the 'Disease Incidence Prevention Chart' from Grassroots Health HERE. Study it carefully and you will see that you put yourself at risk for:

Breast cancer when your level is less than 34
Ovarian Cancer with a level of less than 38
Multiple Sclerosis with a level of less than 42
Diabetes with a level of less than 34

Also, I wonder why you are taking 2000 IU's a day... That is the proper maintenance dosage for a 2 year old and not a treatment dose for an adult. Please read and follow the instructions on my Vitamin D Therapy page to see that you should be treated with 4 to 5 TIMES that dosage in order to get effective treatment.

AND if you are not taking magnesium, then you are probably not helping your bones anyway. Magnesium and vitamin d are the key to bone health and you are probably EXTREMELY deficient in magnesium too...

Itching
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

Whoops. I didn't even address your initial question about itching. You are using a crappy quality vitamin d with rancid oils. Please stop using pills that contain rancid oils and get a 'dry' formulation that does not contain oils.

It's not the oil in the vitamin d supplement it is that your body cannot process the vitamin d properly without enough magnesium. Try adding a magnesium supplement.

Vitamin D side effects
by: Cathy A.

I have been on 10,000 IU of vitamin D3 for almost a month and am experiencing itching and creepy crawly skin. I have hyperparathyroidism and my Calcium is low normal and vitamin D has been also low normal. My doctor would like to see my calcium a little higher and my vitamin D and hopefully my parathyroid enlargement will decrease.
