Is H Pylori a cause of chronic depression or bi-polar disorder?

Did a search of your site for "depression." Came up in a lot of articles but not its own page, apparently.

Are long term mania and depression conditions unto themselves or are they mostly symptomatic of some chronic nutritional disorder? Does H Pylori respond to goldenseal?

Is there a healthy level of H Pylori? I'm new to your site. If you have answered these elsewhere, I apologize.

MIGHT it be a cause of depression
by: Kerri Knox, Registered Nurse

Hi Thom,

Please read my page on Symptoms of H Pylori. Once you do that, a BETTER question might be "MIGHT H pylori be a cause of depression or bi-polar" and the answer would be 'Yes'. Is it in your case? You'll never know until you eliminate it and find out.

I do not recommend Golden Seal for H pylori simply because I only use herbs that have been well studied in peer reviewed studies and I have not seen any for the use of goldenseal. Not to say that it's not effective for it, just that I have not seen any research studies showing its effectiveness and I can only recommend that which I know.

I outline my comprehensive recommendations for how to get rid of H pylori in my book The H Pylori Solution.

No, there is no 'healthy' level of H pylori, there is only 'infected' and 'not infected'. Some people may remain asymptomatic with H pylori and some people may become VERY sick with it. It is very dependent upon the person and if you have tested positive, there is no way to know how much you will improve, if you will improve or what symptoms will resolve once you eliminate it.

Hope this helps.
