Is Vitamin D Safe
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

I always find this a very interesting question to answer because the question that I KNOW that you are asking is, "Will that be too much?"

But since that is not the ACTUAL question that you asked, I like to answer this in my own way. Here's a question for you, "Is drinking 8 ounces of water a day safe?" Well, of course it is, you might answer. But what if that is the ONLY water that you drink all day, every day. Is it still safe?

Actually not because that one glass of water every day will, over time, cause you to become dehydrated. So, because that one glass of water IS NOT ENOUGH, eventually it will be unsafe.

Now, 5000 IU's per day is a good dose for MAINTENANCE, IF and only IF your levels are in the optimum range of between 50 to 80 ng/ml as per the Vitamin D Council.

So, the danger of taking 5000 IU's of Vitamin D per day is NOT that you will take too much, but that you will take TOO LITTLE!

I know that 5000 IU's per day seems like a lot, but it is NOT a lot if you are very deficient, and unless you are tanned bronze, then I assume that you are DEFINITELY Vitamin D deficient. But there is no way for you to know that UNLESS you get a Vitamin D Test to know for sure.

So, a 5000 IU Vitamin D3 Supplement is TERRIFIC if you are already between 50 to 80 ng/ml. So, go get tested and find out what your Vitamin D Level is! It really is that important.

Vitamin D is illegal here..
by: liam

Vitamin D is illegal over 400 iu. in th e czech republic. It is classified as a drug. I guess then it makes people well so big pharma have its grip on the czechs.

Czechs are passive-agressive by nature.Passive when it comes to government control and agressive to anyone who feels something may need to be changed.

I know I am deficient in the drug.
I am not good on the net because im always getting stung when I buy on line so I dont know what to do.

I used D in ireland and my health improved dramatically but Since its illegal here im becoming sick again.

Help.

Vitamin D is illegal...

So, you have three VERY legal choices for your Vitamin D. I'm assuming that you can PURCHASE bottles of Vitamin D at a dosage of 400 IU's, so you could simply take 10,000 IU's per day until you feel better. While that's not ideal to have to take 25 pills per day, it is certainly a quick and easy solution that you could start to do right now.

Another option is to see a doctor and see if you can get a prescription for high dose Vitamin D for a while. If they won't write you a prescription, if you copy all of the symptoms that you are having and relate them to vitamin D deficiency, then maybe you will either get a prescription or be able to get a Vitamin D Level ordered.

The third solution is- the next time that you are in a foreign country- or maybe you could go to a neighboring country for the weekend simply for that purpose- is to 'fill up' on Vitamin D by taking about 600,000 IU's while you are there.

If you did that twice a year, you would likely be able to keep your Vitamin D Levels high enough to feel better- and no laws would be broken!

Is this enough
by: Anonymous

I had my levels checked and the doctor said I was at 24 so he gave me 5000 units and told me to take one a day is that enough or do I need more?

No, it's not likely to be enough...

So, a Vitamin D Level of 24 is still actually quite deficient, and 5000 IU's will only meet your daily Vitamin D Requirements and is not enough to bring your levels up.

You should read the page on Vitamin D Deficiency Treatment and you'll see that the 'standard' dosage to bring up your levels is between 7000 IU's to 10,000 IU's per day.

You'll also want to be sure to read the page on Magnesium and Vitamin D to see why you should NOT take the vitamin d without taking magnesium in order to prevent most of the Vitamin D Side Effects that can occur.
