Is 1000 IU's of Vitamin D Per Day Enough

by Carla
(Elm City, NC)

I am a 25 year old, wife and mother to an active 14 year old boy! For the past 7+ months, I have suffered from chronic fatigue, weakness, and more recently body pain. My doctor ordered blood tests, and my vitamin D level came back as 18.2 ng/mL. She says that this could be the cause of my severe fatigue and weakness!

I have done a lot of research on Vitamin D deficiencies, and I keep reading about the 'high dose' treatments everyone receives.

However, my doctor simply told me to go buy 1000 IU vitamin D3 supplements and take 1 a day!

I have read your write up about the ineffectiveness of Prescription Vitamin D, however, my question is, will 1000IU of vitamin D3 per day, be even close to enough to bring up my levels up to 'normal'?

Sincerely
Carla

Hi Carla,

What you want to know is on my Vitamin D Deficiency Treatment page.

While it's great that your doctor DIDN'T give you Prescription Vitamin D, he otherwise doesn't know what he's doing.

You should also please read the page on Magnesium and Vitamin D to see why you should NOT take your vitamin d without magnesium.

And if you read the Signs of Magnesium Deficiency page, you'll see that pain is also a symptom of magnesium deficiency.

I HIGHLY suggest that you Sign up for my Newsletter and get the Essential Guide to Pain Relief.

It's really NOT a good idea to replace single nutrients in large doses, and it's silly to think that you have only ONE isolated nutrient deficiency without any others, even though that's what doctors will have you believe, so I highly suggest that you consider taking a high quality multivitamin as well- such as:

Jigsaw Health's Essential Daily Packs

or

Beyond any Multiple

just to give you some 'insurance' for any other nutrient deficiencies that you might have as well...

So, read all that and let me know if you have any questions...
