Interesting Problem
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

Hi Dennis,

That's an interesting problem. Obviously, the amount that you are taking is not too much because your levels are still low. The definition of an overdose is based on levels and symptoms, not dosage, so you are obviously not getting enough for whatever reason.

Several reasons that you MIGHT have to take so much are:

* Oxide is the worst absorbing type of magnesium, you may have the same effects using a much smaller dosage of another type of magnesium. I would actually suggest that you try taking Jigsaw Health's Extended Release Magnesium Malate which you may be able to take in a lesser dose and less frequently than the magnesium that you are taking now.

* You have Gluten Sensitivity or possibly even full blown Celiac Disease that is going undiagnosed and causing intestinal malabsorption. This is WAY more common than you might think and could even bet the case if you have NO other symptoms of gluten intolerance AND if your doctor tells you it's impossible. It's not impossible and you might have it- most people with chronic health problems have gluten sensitivity to one degree or another

* You have severe B6 deficiency. B6 is required in order to absorb magnesium. And if you are deficient, you might need a LOT of B6, more than you can get in a B complex supplement. Nutrients are not drugs and if you are 'just' taking magnesium and nothing else, imbalances of other nutrients are EXTREMELY common. Nutrients require other nutrients to work and using high dosages of single nutrients nearly always causes problems.

* Your adrenal glands might be in major overdrive from stress, which uses up tons of magnesium. It might not be your kidneys flushing out magnesium, but your adrenal glands using it up due to stress.

Just a few thoughts...
