Vitamin D and Hair Loss
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen

I wish that I could say that Hair Loss and Vitamin D deficiency were linked. But sadly, they are not as far as I know. If they were, then my honey would not look like he does (the picture above)!! In fact, as an experiment, we tried some high dose Vitamin D to see if it would help to regrow his hair or at least stop the hair loss- but all to no avail!!

Sorry.

As far as I know, there is no known reason for standard male pattern baldness- if that is what you are describing. However, for hair that IS falling out in patches OR thinning hair and balding in women, there are often remedies for these. Some types of balding is an autoimmune disease that can be corrected by certain dietary changes- including the elimination of gluten from the diet. And thinning hair in women is sometimes due to low thyroid, so you should get your thyroid levels checked if you are a woman and have hair that is thinning along with other low thyroid symptoms such as weight gain, fatigue or sluggishness.

As far as your other question, can Vitamin D Deficiency cause stomach problems, that is another 'No'. There is no evidence of that either. Stomach problems can be caused by a VARIETY of different problems. If you have had a FULL MEDICAL WORKUP and doctors can't find out why you are having stomach problems, then the likely culprit is Symptoms of Gluten Sensitivity -which can also cause the symptoms of hair falling out.

Hair loss and vitamin D
by: Anonymous

Four months ago I had my vitamin D tested and it was 33ng. My doctor told me to start taking D3 supplements 1000mg,about a months later I noticed there wasn't as much hair in the shower and after three months the quater sise bald spot in my scalp started to disappear. I truely believe there is a connection between the two.
