Long term for as long as you have it
by: Kerri Knox, The Immune System Queen

Hi David,

Yes, H pylori can weaken your immune system. I'm not sure what you mean by 'long term' but it can weaken it for as long as you have it, and because your immune system may have been fighting it off for a long time, it may have affected other body systems as well.

For instance, H pylori can lead to increased gastric permeability, which can lead to malabsorption of nutrients and to problems similar to those that Increased Intestinal Permeability causes.

H pylori also causes inflammation.

The result of this fighting off an infection for many years might also be Adrenal Gland Fatigue and the resulting problems from that, which can include a decreased immunity.

If you are asking if this is all permanent, not necessarily. And if you are asking if immune system problems are always FROM H pylori, the answer is no. H pylori is contracted BECAUSE the immune system must first be weak enough to do so. So it's a vicious cycle.

But yes, you can turn things around. Your weakened immune system need not be weakened forever.

Kerri Knox, RN
